My Projects is my place to share my work as I attempt to make a handmade wardrobe.
It's been a while, a long while, since I've posted a new My Projects post. Not that I haven't been making things like crazy, I have! But for my Etsy shop, not for myself. My Projects is about my personal projects. I also prefer these postings to be about finished projects, not WIPs. With the exception of some great pencil skirts, I haven't finished a project in quite a while.
I was set out to start this year's vintage pledge with a great and early start! New sewing machine, great patterns selected, how could I go wrong? Well, I will tell you. I started with Butterick B5895- the pants. The PANTS! I hardly ever wear pants. With the exception of some jeans, I just believe my body shape is best in dresses in skirts. With that said, there are times when my wardrobe really could use some nice fitting cigarette capri pants. I have some red stretch sateen, just dying to be these pants. I made a muslin and they came out way too small in the thighs. An area that can make a girl scream! And scream I did! So I started dedicating more and more energy into getting in shape. I said I'd work on the pattern and perfect it, and still it sits.
So finally, I decided to move on to something else. Now it's the end of summer, and I still have on my sewing agenda summer clothes. I've decided that it's best if I work a full season or 2 (or year!) ahead, since I just don't have a lot of time for personal projects anyway. Between my full time job, running my shop, and trying to be social, it goes on the back burner every weekend. I have now accepted that fact and can just continue at my snail's pace. Anyway, I do prefer summer dresses over all else!
I've now cut out a muslin of V8812. I love this dress! I have a few modifications to make in the bust but once complete I think this will be a pattern I make over and over again. If you've been following me for awhile, you know I love to remake the silhouettes and patterns that work best for me in many different fabrics and colors. Remember, my summer of the Peasant Blouse? I wear them all of the time. With my pencil skirts of course!
So, I bought some new fabric! I've decided on the pretty blue with feathers for the dress above and the leaves for Simplicity 6341 (shown below). I'll keep you posted on my progress! Oh, and I have a red and white gingham that will make a great peasant blouse!
Let me know, my crafty Bombshells, what have you been creating for yourself? How much time do you have for sewing projects? Did you join the vintage pledge?
